This entry bench is designed to capture a tree’s metamorphosis into furniture: a live edge slab of maple slowly transforms into a cabinet. When I found this slab it had a long crack running throughout its length and I used a network of inlay to patch the damage. The inlay process, where a section of the wood is removed and replaced with another, was used to bring back stability to the wood. The storage cabinet features a flap down opening with a blackened interior, and a drawer with a custom made brass pull.
